Né en 1986, GRAFFMATT est un artiste urbain français vivant à Chambéry, en Savoie. Dessinant depuis son enfance, c’est seulement en 2010 qu’il commence à graffer, d’abord dans des lieux abandonnés et ensuite en collectif dans des espaces publics. Après l’obtention de son diplôme en Communication Visuelle à Lyon, GRAFFMATT travaille en tant que graphiste jusqu’en 2018 où il décide de tout plaquer et de se consacrer entièrement à la peinture. C’est dans les rues qu’il trouve son inspiration et la transmet ensuite sur toile en atelier ou sur des murs.
La scène urbaine est sa principale source d’inspiration, elle reflète la société dans laquelle nous vivons, un paysage en perpétuel mouvement. Lors de ses voyages, GRAFFMATT s’imprègne de l’agitation urbaine et photographie les gens dans leur environnement. Il se rend compte que l’Homme se fond dans un décor qui est censé le rassurer alors qu'il lui prête de moins en moins d’attention. Entre portraits et paysages urbains, son travail témoigne du rythme effréné de notre société actuelle, avec le mouvement comme fil conducteur de son oeuvre.
Son attirance pour le graffiti conjuguée à la technique du graphisme a permis à l’artiste de forger son style où le dessin a une place prédominante dans son travail artistique. En utilisant le noir et le blanc, Graffmatt utilise également le potentiel expressif de la couleur fluorescente pour créer un sentiment de fragilité et de puissance. Cette recherche de contraste et de dynamisme l’amène à mixer l’aérosol et l’acrylique, ajouter plusieurs textures pour plonger le spectateur dans une atmosphère qui suggère à la fois la sensualité et la vulnérabilité.
GRAFFMATT (born 1986) is a french urban artist currently based in Chambery, in Savoie. He has been drawing since his childhood, but it is only in 2010 that he started painting graffiti, firstly in abandoned places and then collectively in public spaces. After obtaining his degree in Visual Communication in Lyon, GRAFFMATT worked as a graphic designer until 2018 when he decided to leave everything and devote himself entirely to painting. It is in the streets that he finds his inspiration and then transmits it on canvas or on walls.
His main source of inspiration is the urban scene, the reflexion of the society in which we live, a landscape in perpetual motion. During his travels, GRAFFMATT immerses himself in the urban hustle and photographs people in their environment. He realizes that Human fades into a setting that is supposed to reassure him while he pays less and less attention to it. Between portraits and urban landscapes, his work illustrates the frantic pace of our current society, with movement as the common thread of his work.
His attraction to graffiti combined with the technique of graphic design has allowed the artist to forge a style where drawing has a predominant place in his artistic work. Using black and white, GRAFFMATT also employs the expressive potential of fluorescent color to create a perception of frailty and potency. This search for contrast and dynamism leads him to mix acrylic and aerosol, and to add several textures to immerse the viewer in an atmosphere that suggests both sensuality and vulnerability.
